Filming has begun on the sequel to 1986's "Top Gun." Entitled "Top Gun: Maverick," Tom Cruise will star once again, and the movie will follow fighter pilots grappling with drone tech that renders their old-school, buzz-the-tower flight skills obsolete. Fans of Cruise and the original film are thrilled and can't wait to head back to the danger zone! Others say nobody asked for 56-year-old Maverick as a flight school instructor. Do we need another "Top Gun"? 🎖️

Sources confirmed to Variety on Thursday that filming on the sequel had begun.

Although the plot is being kept under wraps, it’s been previously reported that Cruise’s character would now be a flight instructor and that the film would explore a world of drone technology, fifth-generation fighters and the end of the era of dog-fighting.

"Top Gun" stans are here for it!

Val Kilmer is back as Iceman! If this sequel finally consummates the erotic tension between Maverick and Kazansky, it will be worth the 32-year wait! 🙏

But critics say Tom Cruise's body is writing checks his ego can't cash.

Others deride the original film as jingoistic military propaganda, which is not something we need more of in 2018.

Still, the possibility of Ghost Goose is sending chills down our collective spines.
