The Internet has embraced the Babadook as a gay icon since 2017, because why not? The Babadook's rise in status started when Netflix misclassified the movie under its LGBT category. The Internet being the Internet, ran with it. Others think the whole joke is dumb and some think it trivializes what the Babadook is really about—a woman's personal trauma. And some don't agree with the Babadook craze co-opting gay identity. What do you think? 🌈

The Internet celebrated the Babadook during Pride Month last year, following Netflix's misclassification.

Despite starting off as a joke, the Babadook has actually been embraced by the LGBTQ community. Some going as far as to showcase just how gay the Badadook truly is and how much the icon slays.

But some folks are seriously not feeling the Babadook craze. Other adopted gay icons actually had a positive impact on the gay community—like Cher, Diana Ross, and David Bowie for example. But what has the Babadook done for the gay community?

The Babadook is basically physical manifestation of a woman's personal trauma...like...why is he a gay icon again? Oh, because Netflix made an error and put the film in the wrong category. 🙄
