Should Carrie Bradshaw have ended up with Big?

Carrie Bradshaw's on-again, off-again romance with Mr. Big was one of the most excruciating and relatable plotlines of "Sex and the City." Big was the dreamy-but-distant guy whose inability to commit made him that much more attractive. For some, Big and Carrie ending up together is still the ideal fairytale ending. But others argue Carrie picking Big after six years of being his sidepiece betrayed everything the show stood for. Big was trash and Carrie deserved better. What do you think? 👦🏻🌃 👠

It turns out the show's creator, Darren Star, was very disappointed that the writers chose to have Carrie end up with Big. Bustle's Loretta Donelan wrote:

Not only did Star reveal that he did not intend for this to be the ending, but he described the show's conclusion as having "ultimately betrayed what it was about, which was that women don’t ultimately find happiness from marriage."

But other fans loved the Big and Carrie rollercoaster ride. The course of their true love never did run smooth! All their problems made it that much more exciting and satisfying when they finally did end up together.

Some fans will ship Carrie and Big always. Fans still fantasize over his town car as well as his tall, dark and handsome unpredictability and mystery. Big is a super romantic figure to some.

But critics say Big treated Carrie like garbage for years, then suddenly realizes she's "the one" and flies off to Paris to propose—and she accepts?! So much for female empowerment. Intimacy-allergic commitment-phobes don't just suddenly decide they want to marry someone they've been lukewarm about after six years of emotional unavailability. And even if they did, Carrie should've had the self-esteem to say no.

Others just have no time for Big.

Many say the older we get, the more disappointing Carrie's choice looks.
