Lady Gaga burst onto the pop scene in 2008, and from the jump, she didn't hold back in her image. She constantly pushed the envelope with outrageous outfits, makeup and wigs. But she's more than a pop gimmick, Gaga is actually the epitome of a pop superstar.

Gaga has clearly studied the art of pop music, starting with her impressive New York education. Hence, her debut dance-pop LP properly titled "The Fame." Gaga became an instant pop culture icon in late 2008 from her music videos for #1 hits "Just Dance" and "Poker Face," and her appearance in live performances—like the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

Below are some notable lyrics to "Poker Face," per Genius.

🎶 Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poker face. (She’s got me like nobody). Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poker face. (She’s got me like nobody).🎶

Gaga's debut album instantly called her out as a pop star, someone seeking fame and growing popularity, and she quite literally did just that. But "The Fame Monster (Deluxe)" combined music for her debut album and her follow-up EP.

Her musical style has been regarded as dark pop, featuring massive hits like "Bad Romance" and "Telephone," alongside Queen Beyoncé. "The Fame Monster" topped the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart, and details the darker side of being a pop superstar. Hence, the EP is influenced by not only dance-pop and synth-pop like her debut, but gothic music, industrial and glam rock.

Katy has always created controversy. First off, she was originally known as Katy Hudson, a Christian rock artist. Let that sink in. Ha! Although she hit a rough patch in the early days of her music career, she found her calling as a pop-rock singer in the late '00s.

Her first big hit is "I Kissed A Girl," which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2008. But some critics argue she was only using lesbian culture and pandering to get ahead. Still, Katy admitted to having kissed a girl, and got her first massive smash single and her LP "One of the Boys" on the Billboard 200.

Below are some significant lyrics to "I Kissed A Girl," per Genius.

🎶 I kissed a girl and I liked it. The taste of her cherry chapstick. I kissed a girl just to try it. I hope my boyfriend don't mind it. It felt so wrong, it felt so right. Don't mean I'm in love tonight. I kissed a girl and I liked it. I liked it.🎶

While Katy's best was yet to come, "One of the Boys" successfully introduced her to the world of pop music. Katy also successfully introduced her quirky, fluffy and dorky persona while singing ironic pop-rock songs with good punchlines.

She scored not only a big hit with "I Kissed A Girl," but "Hot n Cold" and "Waking Up In Vegas." She also successfully mixed pop-rock with disco, and modeled her style after the famed character Betty Boop and the pop culture icon Bettie Paige.

Gaga released arguably her most iconic album "Born This Way" in 2011. Her official sophomore LP topped the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and sold more than 1 million copies in its first week. The album features one of her biggest hits—the gay anthem "Born This Way."

Gaga is a straight woman, but she has genuinely supported gay rights and LGBTQ communities in her music and with her philanthropy throughout her career. Hence, gay people support Mother Monster—many of whom are Little Monsters.

Below are some notable lyrics to "Born This Way," per Genius.

🎶 I'm beautiful in my way 'cause God makes no mistakes. I'm on the right track, baby. I was born this way. Don't hide yourself in regret. Just love yourself and you're set. I'm on the right track, baby. I was born this way (born this way).🎶

On "Born This Way," Gaga might be at her edgiest. She tackles heavy subject matters of embracing LGBTQ identities, freedom, feminism and religion. In she incorporates a wider range of musical genres—including dance-pop, synthpop, electronica, techno, disco, house, opera, rock and roll, and heavy metal.

When Katy made her grand musical return in 2010, she was more polished than ever and fully embraced her Bettie Page-esque persona. "California Gurls" featuring Snoop Dogg became the Song of the Summer in 2010. But she wasn't done making #1 hits. "Teenage Dream" is regarded as one of her most signature songs and quickly became a #1 hit single. Katy followed "Teenage Dream" with three more top-charting smashes: "Firework," "E.T." and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." The final single "The One That Got Away" was still a mega hit, peaking at #3.

Hence, Katy's goofy, fun and fluffy nature garnered her a record-breaking title shared with the King of Pop. She is the only female artist to ever have five #1 hits from the same album, a feat only accomplished by Michael Jackson in 1988 with his iconic "Bad" LP.

Below are significant lyrics to "Teenage Dream," per Genius.

🎶 You make me feel like I'm living a teenage dream. The way you turn me on. I can't sleep. Let's run away and don't ever look back. Don't ever look back. My heart stops when you look at me. Just one touch. Now baby, I believe this is real. So take a chance and don't ever look back. Don't ever look back.🎶

"Teenage Dream" is filled with so many bangers and smashes that it's regarded as Katy's best album. The LP topped the Billboard 200 upon its debut on the chart. And again, "Teenage Dream" is only the second album to score five #1 pop hits on the Hot 100.

"Teenage Dream" is a fluffier and fun dance-pop album, but with a variety of musical influences—including hip hop, gothic rock, disco, house and electronica.
