Some people strongly criticize pet owners who refer to themselves as "parents" and their pets as "children." People who do so consider the labels harmless, and say pet owners and their pets share a special bond. But critics argue when pet owners use those terms, they further a delusion owning a pet is analogous to being a parent. What do you think?

For some parents, it's erroneous and annoying for animal owners to give themselves the title of "parent." Writer M.A. Wallace argues "millions of people are happily, willfully confused about the difference between having a pet and raising a child."

But many pet owners pushed back: why do parents care how others refer to their animals?

I have a lot of friends who are amazing parents. And they really don’t care what I call my dog. It doesn’t concern them. They’re happy with their family and I’m happy with mine.
